On Demand
Course Leader : Dave Gouthro, Dave Gouthro Health & Safety Consulting
Duration : 1 hour 0 minute
Price: $69.00

The importance of leadership skills when it comes to advising and giving direction and still keeping at arm’s length in this time of “we need to get the job done” are critical. The session will tie in the demands and expectations of safety and non-safety issues the safety person is more and more likely to be asked to include within their scope of work. However, this session will not be giving you a nice neat check list or clear and concise solutions to solve these issues you may face dealing with people. Yes, dealing with people – that’s what safety is all about. It is about the people and – guess what – leadership is all about people! The cross-section of people, their positions and range of personalities is as vast as the health and safety issues you face.

We will also talk about the precarious line we as safety people walk. The first challenge is to know what your role is, or perhaps I should say what it is not. We will bring professionalism into this discussion as you will be challenged with making many decisions. It is when these decisions are unpopular that your professionalism – which in turn is a reflection of your integrity – will make the difference in how people respond.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Leadership
  • Building Relationships
  • Trust
  • Integrity
  • Directing people
  • Keeping at arm’s length
  • Competence
