On June 20, 2014, the federal government introduced significant changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, which make it more difficult to hire foreign workers.

The previous Labour Market Opinion (LMO) regime was replaced by the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which requires employers to advertise positions extensively, make considerable efforts to hire Canadians, implement transition plans to towards a local labour force and impose limits on the duration of Work Permits. In addition, LMIA applications became more costly with the imposition of a very significant filing fee.

This webinar will provide information for employers to assist them to navigate this lengthy process, fraught with perils, and to answer common questions that arise in dealing with Service Canada during and after the application process.
